Hot Green Drink [low carb]
I wanted a hot green drink that was low carb, anti-inflammatory, not thick, good tasting.
An enjoyable hot green drink that is more like a tea. I did not want so many greens in it that it was thick and hard to drink. Or so green tasting that I would have to add apple or other fruit to make it taste good. Adding fruit sugars will take away from the anti-inflammatory benefit of the green drink.
Hot Green Drink Ingredients
Parsley
Celery
Baby Spinach
Fresh Ginger
When I have Swiss Chard, I add a small leaf

My cup for the hot green drink is huge, 700ml (2 and 1/2 cups). An opportunity to be kind to your kidneys and to make sure you are hydrated with a yummy, nutritious, alkaline drink.
Pour the green drink from the blender into your cup and then fill it with boiling water and it is ready to add all this goodness to your amazing body and nourish each cell. This green drink is very good for making your gut happy by feeding all the good bacteria.
The great thing about this green drink is that it tastes great without added fruit sugars. No taste dominates, it is the fresh ginger that gives a bright tang.

Ginger
I love fresh ginger and add it to a lot of my sweet or savory cooking. It is very kind to the gastrointestinal tract, aids the elimination of intestinal gas and spasms. It is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Read this article on amazing ginger by Jenny from Au Naturale Nutrition.
Parsley
- “Parsley is rich in many vital vitamins, including Vitamin C, B 12, K and A. This means parsley keeps your immune system strong, tones your bones and heals the nervous system, too.
- It helps flush out excess fluid from the body, thus supporting kidney function. Regular use of parsley can help control your blood pressure. The folic acid in this herb is like a tonic for your heart.” (Source: Link and more information)
Celery
“The benefits of celery begin with it being an excellent source of antioxidants and beneficial enzymes, in addition to vitamins and minerals such as vitamin K, vitamin C, potassium, folate and vitamin B6.” (Source: Link and more information)
Baby spinach
“Researchers have identified more than a dozen different flavonoid compounds in spinach that function as anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer agents.” (Source: Link and more information)
Swiss Chard
“Swiss chard is a nutritional powerhouse — an excellent source of vitamins K, A, and C, as well as a good source of magnesium, potassium, iron, and dietary fiber.” (Source: Link and more information).

Sounds healthy and delicious Kathleen and also different to the usual green smoothie. I always learn from your articles. Thanks for hosting another great linkup.

I found your blog via the Pit Stop Crew mention. I agree that green tea is very healthy and nutritious. Few people realize that tea is rich in anti-oxidants. Oxidation is important for a variety of reasons, but it also contributes to loss of telomere length and cell death. Thus, consuming beverages that are anti-oxidant rich may improve overall health and longevity.
I am sure that Green Tea is wonderful, but this post is not about that, it is a hot green drink made from green ingredients that are anti-inflammatory.
Yes, I can see that now. 🙂 Essentially you’re talking about a blended vegetable drink. I’ll take this as a lesson about excitedly rushing to comment w/o fully reading through the blog post. Have a good day.
I don’t think I have ever made a warm green drink (I do make a lot of fresh ginger tea however as well as green juice and green smoothies). I’ll definitely give your hot green drink a try soon! Pinned it!
I am in dire need of this since coming back from holiday! I definitely did not do my kidneys or liver any favors! it’s such a vibrant color too i might be able to convince the boys to drink it and tell them it’s alien juice or something :p

Kathleen, all the ingredients look so great, I bet this tastes wonderful! How great that it is healthy too!! Thanks for sharing the recipe!
Drink your smoothie hot! I am sure the hotness works on colds as well.
My biggest problems with green drinks and smoothies is that they always taste like I’m grazing in a grassy field. I like that this one isn’t overly “grass” flavored. 🙂 Also like that it isn’t thick. Will be trying this!
This is one healthy drink. Can’t wait to try it. Would love for you to link up at Let’s Get Real Link Party that opens at 5 EST on Thursdays.
Fresh ginger, when done right, can be a great flavor while also providing health benefits!
